Family Values AUDITIONS

(Working title), a short film by Mystical Dog Productions

This film highlights that family violence is simultaneously universal and deeply personal. We intercut between nine actors –women and men representing a range of cultural backgrounds – telling their stories through a single monologue with individual elements at the start and end: for some, the beginning is intergenerational violence and patterns are repeating; for others, this comes out of the blue. A simple bad choice. At the end, some manage to make a successful new life; others are not so lucky. One experiences the death of a child at the hands of the perpetrator.

Using actors of diverse background and ethnicity and age will show the endemic nature of the problem. The film will incorporate the stories of both heterosexual and same sex relationships.

We are seeking experienced actors only as the material is dark and will require the actors to dig into confronting emotions. Please be aware that the material may trigger some people and do not apply if you feel this may be you.

We are auditioning:

  • Female identifying actors aged between 28 – 45 of diverse cultural backgrounds. Indigenous, Asian, African and Indian/Sri Lankan/Pakistani, Pacific Islander actors encouraged to apply
  • Male identifying actors aged between 28 – 45 of diverse cultural backgrounds, specifically for a same-sex relationship character.
  • Non-binary and trans gender actors encouraged to apply.

In the first instance, please complete the expression of interest form and be sure include a CV. We will contact actors with an audition script to make a self-tape.
